Divina I is part of a cycle of works presented for the first time by the artist on the occasion of his personal exhibition “Giovanni Frangi. Divine. Wallpaper ”held in 2010 at BASE, the exhibition space of Palazzo Credito Bergamasco in Bergamo. With the intention of making the visitor feel immersed in nature, on that occasion Frangi sprinkled the floor with dry leaves and covered the walls with the cycle of twelve oils on Divine canvas, each of which evokes the image of a foliage from which white patches of sky can be seen. The foliage is that of a plane tree in autumn; its leaves, being dry, are painted in purple, a color that has always been associated with death. Divina drags the visitor into an imaginary forest, inducing him to recover a direct relationship with nature.
